Stay Sun Safe: Choose the Right SPF
As you may have already heard, three major brands sunscreen products have failed their sunscreen tests. It is important these products are tested regularly, and the following 3 have failed their annual safety test from Which?:
Asda Protect Moisturising Sun Lotion SPF30 High
Calypso Press & Protect Sun Lotion SPF30
Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Fragrance Free Face Sunscreen Lotion.
They were all tested for their SPF and UVA protection. The tests show that Calypso's Press & Protect lotion, which claims to be SPF30, only achieved two-thirds of this. Asda's sunscreen failed both rounds of testing and the Bondi Sands did not reach the minimum required UVA protection.
So what's the big deal?
Sunscreen is the most important product to have as part of your daily routine. It is an essential part of protecting your skin from premature aging, preventing sunburn and even skin cancer. You need to use at least a factor 30 to protect yourself from UVB rays. Sunscreen needs to be used everyday, even on days which are overcast, as the suns rays can still penetrate through the clouds.
Our own SPF testing
We did our own SPF tests using Solarium SPF which we stock at the salon and a popular High Street SPF to show how important it is for the product to cover all areas exposed to the sun and to have a high protection factor. As shown in the pictures below, the Solarium Transparent Gel Sunscreen Stick SPF50+ shows a higher level of coverage and protection compared to the High Street brand. The side of the face with no SPF coverage shows how vulnerable the skin is to the dangers of the sun.
We carry a range of Solarium sunscreen products, and we recommend them for the right level of protection from the sun.
