What are age spots?

Age spots are flat black, brown or grey spots on the skin that appear in areas exposed to the sun.

What causes age spots?

Age spots are caused by the overproduction of melanin (natural skin pigment). Ultraviolet (UV) light speeds up production of melanin. Tanning beds/lamps can also cause age spots. You are more likely to get age spots if you have light skin and/or have a history of frequent sunburns or extreme sun exposure.

How Laser Genesis works

Micro-pulses of laser energy are gently delivered to the skin. The laser stimulates the body’s own processes to activate collagen remodelling to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and unwanted brown spots. In addition, Laser Genesis addresses facial redness by targeting the excess micro vessels. Although the individual treatment results are subtle, the overall effect of a treatment series can be quite dramatic.

The CryoPen™ is an advanced cryotherapy innovation that is a fast, effective, safe and new solution for removal of age spots.

How the CryoPen™ works

The CryoPen™ emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure which reaches up to -89°C, which allows the clinician to work with millimetre precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue. Procedures typically last from 5 to 25 seconds as the penetration of the cold is approximately 1mm per 5 seconds of treatment, so you can be in and out of the salon quickly. There is no downtime and it is advisable to leave the area uncovered to speed up the healing process. As long as you protect the area from abrasion or damage, there are no limitations to activities straight after the treatment e.g. work, swimming, bathing.
